With a little help from a friend...

For many older adults continuing to live independently is an important measure of their sense of well-being. The services provided by a Senior Companion volunteer is often the "little help" they need to remain independent. Senior Companions offer friendship, support, and advocacy to older adults who are isolated or homebound.

Senior Companion volunteers offer their friendship and support by:
  • Providing regular, friendly visits to persons who might otherwise be isolated
  • Listening and offering encouragement
  • Assisting with groceries, personal errands, light housekeeping, correspondence, etc.
  • Advocating for essential needs and services for their clients.

help her to remain living in her own home.
- Senior Companion volunteers are men and women who want to make a difference in the lives of older adults in our community. They are over the age of 55, meet income qualifications, are in good health, and are able to serve a minimum of 15 to 20 hours per week.

In addition to impacting the lives of others, our volunteers receive a tax-free stipend, mileage reimbursement, meal allowance, insurance while volunteering, an annual physical, and on-going training and recognition.

If you want to help improve the quality of life for older adults in our community, contact Karyl Chase at karylc@weberhs.org. You can make "independence a realty."
