Who We Are

The Weber Human Services Foundation (WHSF) helps thousands of individuals and families throughout Weber and Morgan Counties by providing direct support and assistance for the human services needs of those in our communities. WHSF provides financial and in-kind support for programs and services sponsored by Weber Human Services, including: school-based prevention programs, substance abuse and mental health treatment, aging programs, at-risk youth programs, and services for our youngest clients, including a preschool for children with autism and day treatment facilities for the infants and young children of patients.

The WHS Foundation works diligently to help provide for the human services needs of those in our communities, but we can't do it alone. Our success depends upon funding from individuals, foundations and corporations who care. The families and clients served by WHS and the Foundation count on our services, and your support to help them through their challenges.

What We Support

Northern Utah Autism Program
The Northern Utah Autism Program (NUAP) is a pre-school program for children in Weber, Morgan and Davis Counties diagnosed with Autism or Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD). The program is divided into two classrooms of twelve children each with one teacher, two aides, and two part-time assistants. Programming focuses on attending behaviors and compliance, language and cognition, self-help and social skills, and parent contact.

Special attention is given to make sure each child has the individualized care they need, while simultaneously working to make sure the children learn to interact with each other and know acceptable behaviors in group settings.

Research has demonstrated that the earlier a child with autism gets help, the more success they will have, as they will be able to develop the learning skills they will use throughout their lives. Currently, the preschool program serves children ages 3-5, and has 3 classes of children, but 29 families are still on the waiting list to participate! By supporting NUAP, you will be supporting these families and giving their child the chance of a lifetime!

There is no cost for services, so all eligible families in need of these services are provided the opportunity to attend.

The WHSF supports NUAP by providing financial resources for educational materials and age and ability-appropriate developmental toys for the children in the program. In addition, funds help purchase classroom supplies and technology-enhanced learning devices. Specialized playground equipment is also a funding priority. If sufficient funds are raised, the money will be used to hire additional staff so the number of children in the program can be increased, allowing more children the opportunity to participate in this specialized learning environment.

Cammi Awards
The Cammi Awards is a program to highlight and promote healthy alternatives to drug use and violence for all K-12 students in the state of Utah. Participation in this event is a great way to create awareness in our youth about media influence and teach them to be more critical consumers of media messages. Anyone and everyone in the state of Utah (individuals, families, friends, classes, church groups, etc.) can enter. The awards program gives the youth the opportunity to create their own video clip. All video clips have the following goal:
  • Promotes Healthy Alternatives to Drug Use which Includes over-the-counter and Prescription Drugs
Videos are judged and awards are given out in a special Cammi Awards ceremony. Funding for this program helps spread the message of healthy alternatives to drug and alcohol use. Funds help sponsor the program, buy prizes for the winners, create T-shirts, posters and other participation incentives.

Sub for Santa
The WHSF sponsors a Sub for Santa program in November and December, to collect needed items including gifts, clothing, shoes, coats and gift cards, for children and families in Weber and Morgan Counties. Families in need of help are identified by WHS social workers and case workers.
Goldenwest Credit Union has been a major supporter of Sub for Santa in the last few years. Between the efforts of Goldenwest and concerned community members, the WHSF has been able to bless the lives of hundreds of struggling families over the last few years.

Youth Services
The WHSF supports the Youth Services Programs sponsored by Weber Human Services. The goal of these services is to help area youth have healthy mental and social development, by providing appropriate preventative, diagnostic and treatment programs.

Substance Abuse Treatment
The WHSF supports the Substance Abuse Programs sponsored by Weber Human Services. The purpose all of these programs and services is to provide substance abuse help, support and treatment to all parties involved, including the innocent children and adults affected by the substance abuse. All cases are handled on an individual basis, with professional counseling and medical treatment and services offered, following proven methodology for treating similar cases. These programs and services are critical for helping individuals recover from substance abuse, protecting children and innocent adults, and assisting individuals in becoming contributing members of the community.

Aging Services
The WHSF supports the Aging services and programs sponsored by Weber Human Services, as well as other community needs for seniors. The purpose of all of these programs is to promote health and wellness and provide an advocate and support system for community members as they age.

The WHSF also supports community Senior Centers providing donations such as fitness equipment, so seniors in our communities have access to equipment that can help them build and maintain a healthy lifestyle as they age.

Mental Health Treatment
The WHSF supports the Mental Health programs and services sponsored by Weber Human Services. The purpose all of these programs and services is to provide help and support to individuals with mental health challenges, helping them to deal with issues, develop skills, and manage their lives in a positive, meaningful way. All cases are handled on an individual basis, with professional treatment and services offered, following proven methodology for treating similar cases.

These programs and services are critical for helping individuals deal with mental health issues while simultaneously learning to function and thrive in the community. Programs include outpatient and residential programs for men, women and women with custody of minor children.

Tranquility House
The Tranquility House is a residential treatment facility for women with substance abuse problems. The unique thing about the Tranquility House is that women can keep custody of their children and have them live in the home with them during their rehab time. Children under 8 years of age may continue living with their mothers, instead of being taken into state custody, during their mother's treatment. This allows the women to continue being mothers during their treatment, and eases the transition for the children.

The facility houses several women at a time, with full-time professional counselors and support team members to help the women overcome their addictions. Tranquility House is equipped with a full kitchen, living area, computer access and other common areas for use by the women and their children, making the environment as close to a "home" as possible during the treatment time.

The WHS Foundation supports the Tranquility House with financial contributions, as well as through the donation of items needed within the facility. The WHS Foundation Board also helped decorate and design "theme" rooms within the facility, to make the rooms comfortable and accommodating for the women and children who live there.

Youth School-based Prevention Education
Weber Human Services provides educational presentation to high school students. These classes are taught by professionals, to help the youth understand the importance of their thoughts, behaviors and actions, all of which can have long-lasting impacts on the course of the lives. The presentations last about an hour each and are presented in numerous formats, to accommodate either a classroom setting or an assembly setting.

Funds for Prevention Education are used to pay for the time and materials of the presenters. For most of the presenters, the educational classes are not their primary job, and if sufficient funding is not available, they are unable to make these critical presentations to the students. Funding these presentations will help ensure that local youth are educated about important topics, as they relate to the youth today, and in the future.
